My name is Mikal Cooks. I have been a Beloit resident most of my life. I have and continue to provide services through my many social servant roles as a  Teacher, Mentor, Transport/monitoring sexual offenders, Case Manager, Shelter Advocacy, Respite worker, Eccho cohort member/Alumni, Certified Parent Peer Specialist, Notary Public, City of Beloit appointment Review Committee and Wisconsin Women's Network Mentor.

Things that bring me joy is seeing my family and this community thriving and healthy. There is a special kind of beauty in seeing the results of the work coming to life!

Wise words that have been helpful to you: “Help you to help me to help us”!

What brought me to join this cohort: I have and continue to be on a spiritual journey of healing, mental wellness and self love while helping those around me to also live a better healthy lifestyle. Bridge Over Troubled Water, a health and wellness group for Black women's health partnered with last year's ECCHO cohort on the benefits of gardening. My mother who is in my wellness group and now my fellow ECCHO cohort sister voluntold me to apply and here we both are. I am eternally grateful for what she did because I have become part of a sisterhood for life. I have since evolved to continue the journey through the work in front of me. I am very passionate about helping to make this city great again!
